Founded over 40 years ago in 1983, Bethany House is now the largest provider of family homelessness services in Greater Cincinnati. With a mission to empower homeless and at-risk families with the solutions to achieve housing stability and long-term self-sufficiency, Bethany House addresses housing instability at all stages including homelessness prevention (avoiding shelter), emergency shelter (immediate safe place to stay), and re-housing (ongoing support after transitioning out of shelter). It couples housing support with wraparound support services including educational support, life skills, physical and mental healthcare, case management, and much more.
Though it serves any family with at least one child under the age of 18, over 90% of families are led by mothers, and two thirds of the individuals served are children. Consider Bethany House’s impact in 2024 on families:
- Served 731 families with 2,632 individuals across all programs
- Provided 59,633 bed nights in shelter
- Transitioned 93% of families leaving shelter to positive housing
- Helped increase or maintain income for 36% of families exiting shelter
- Empowered 90% of families leaving shelter to avoid a return to homelessness for at least two years
Bethany House’s programs work! Thanks to your generosity through Mardi Gras Benefitting Homeless Children, more families—and children—will receive the support they need to move One Step Closer to Home.
Brighton Center's Homeward Bound for Youth

Brighton Center’s Homeward Bound is the only 24-hour emergency shelter dedicated solely to youth in the Northern Kentucky area. We offer a safe space along with comprehensive residential treatment services for youth ages 11-17 who have experienced abuse, neglect, run away, or are homeless. We value the inherent worth of youth and aim to utilize their strengths and develop their skills through a Trauma-Informed approach.
Homeward Bound offers temporary shelter, food, clothing, and transportation to youth. Our treatment team conducts comprehensive assessments, along with individual, family, and group counseling, plus case management to address each youth’s specific needs. We collaborate with local schools to fulfill educational needs and provide recreational activities in the community for youth residing at the shelter. Our team advocates for the youth, makes appropriate referrals, and offers aftercare services after they leave the shelter. At Homeward Bound, we prioritize family involvement when suitable and do our best to help youth stay enrolled in their home schools. Youth who feel at risk of any danger can be admitted as walk-ins without discrimination. Last year, Homeward Bound supported 120 youth and their families through crisis calls and residential services. 34 youth stayed at the shelter for a total of 1,350 days, averaging 34 days per stay. Among those who stayed at the shelter, 79% transitioned to safe and appropriate stable living arrangements and were able to continue attending their home schools.
Homeward Bound uses a trauma-informed approach focused on positive youth development to not only keep residents safe but also help them learn key life skills, set personal goals, and increase their chances of success. Our goal is for youth to be empowered to have their voices heard and, through education and employment, develop their full potential and become self-sufficient. It is only with your support that we can empower youth to make a difference in their lives and reach their full potential.
